Hi, I'm MaryJane, the founder and creator of curbAGE skincare. This is THE STORY of how the "barrier support system" came to be. I am a seasoned esthetician as well as a professionally trained and educated skincare formulator. With over 38 years of experience, extensive education and countless hours of science-based research I created a SIMPLE, yet EFFECTIVE skincare "system". The decision to switch from working ON the skin to creating my own skincare line required countless hours of research. During that process ONE thing became very clear; the aging of your skin is DIRECTLY INFLUENCED by its outermost layer, the stratum corneum, otherwise known as the skin barrier. This research led me to a NEW way of thinking about the skin. I discovered that EVERY visible sign of premature aging can be traced back to a compromised skin barrier. Fine lines and wrinkles, sagging, dullness, redness and inflammation, uneven skin tone, as well as unwanted pigmentation are indicators of barrier damage.

Research shows that our skin barrier, although composed of "dead" skin cells, is still bioactively working, sending vital signals to the underlying layers of the skin. In other words, these cells are not finished with their job yet. However, many products and treatments are designed  to remove this layer, with claims that younger skin lies beneath or that skincare cannot penetrate unless this barrier is stripped away. The research I uncovered proves this to be FALSE!

*My research shows that the skin barrier performs 10 vital functions, 5 of those are DIRECTLY related to premature aging. This layer provides HYDRATION, ANTIOXIDANT DEFENSE, ANTIMICROBIAL DEFENSE, FREE RADICAL NEUTRALIZATION and most importantly, CELL RENEWAL.

When this layer is stripped away, the skin is left vunerable to premature aging. In fact, EVERY sign of aging mentioned above can be prevented when these 5 functions are supported by a HEALTHY and FUNCTIONING skin barrier.

I wanted to see what would happen if we left our skin barrier alone-no exfoliation, no stripping-while instead using ingredients designed to RESTORE it back to health. As an esthetician, I had been told the same "lore" about removing this layer, but I wanted proof. I gathered a group of women. ages 35-65 to test this theory. For six months they DID NOT EXFOLIATE or undergo ANY barrier removing procedures. Instead they were instructed to use ONLY the 2 serums I formulated to STRENGTHEN and RESTORE their skin barrier. THIS THEORY WORKED! The results were remarkable, EVERY woman experienced visibly improved skin, FEWER LINES and WRINKLES, BRIGHTER and FIRMER texture, a more EVEN COMPLEXION, REDUCED PIGMENTATION, and DIMINISHED IRRITATION and REDNESS.
